Bird and bat boxes, and bank fixing

Work party to stabilise the bank: 24 May from 9am
The bank which runs along the laser row currently has as a retaining wall constructed from cement roof sheeting fixed to timbers, this has now failed in several places. We are going to install gabions (steel wire cages) along the bank to replace it. We need to fill the gabions with the pile of rubble that you may have seen. The club has some tools, but If you could bring spades/shovel and wheelbarrow that would be helpful. We will need a couple of people in the water; they will need waders and buoyancy aid. For the land side work, wellies/boots and gloves.
Bird and bat boxes
When we gained planning approval for the new boatshed one of the conditions was to develop a Habitat Management Plan. The plan is based upon our submitted Ecology Impact Assessment, this in turn indicated how we would deliver a net gain in biodiversity. One of the elements of this was putting up bird and bat boxes. We now have several bird boxes, (mainly for swift and swallows) and have just put up a cluster of bat boxes. Bats have been seen recently flying around the car park area. If any members wish to sponsor further bat or bird boxes please speak with Mark Dunne.
