Courses for adults
The best way to learn to sail is to follow the tried and tested programme of the Royal Yachting Association (RYA). These adult beginner courses - Levels 1 and 2 - provide a safe and structured introduction to the world of dinghy sailing.
Hunts Sailing Club is recognised by the RYA as a Training Centre, allowing us to run RYA courses and issue certificates.

Learn to Sail Summer courses (leading to RYA certificate)
We offer two four-day courses during the summer holidays, primarily for beginners. These courses will lead to Stage 1 and/or Stage 2 for juniors and Levels 1 and/or 2 (Start Sailing and Basic Skills) for adults.
RYA Level 3: Better Sailing
After completing a Level 2 course, you should be able to sail a dinghy independently across all points of sailing in light to moderate winds. Once you have gained some sailing experience, you will be well-prepared to advance to Level 3: Better Sailing, as well as more advanced courses such as Seamanship Skills, Sailing with Spinnakers, and Start Racing.
RYA Start Racing / Get Ready to Race
A two-day introduction to racing in the Spring, leading to an RYA Start Racing certificate. If you've always wanted to race but weren't sure how to get started, or if you're a novice looking to improve your skills, this course is perfect for you! We will have fun sessions focused on starting a race, tactics, and mark rounding. Participants must be confident in single-handed sailing and have completed at least Stage 2 / Level 2 or above. Both adults and youth are welcome!
Race Training
Autumn Race Training
In October / November we typically run Saturday morning race training sessions, for adults and older juniors on the water or by Zoom when the weather is not in our favour. These sessions cover boat handling, starting and mark rounding.
One-to-One tuition
If you have a specific sailing issue, we can offer one-to-one coaching at a time to suit you.
Booking a course
You can find information about upcoming courses on our website under the calendar tab. We also inform our members through a newsletter when new courses become available and when they can be booked online. Please note that all courses are exclusively for Hunts SC members.
