About The Club
Hunts Sailing Club is a friendly, family-oriented sailing club in St Ives, Cambridgeshire on an old gravel pit. We welcome new members who are interested in learning to sail, looking to brush up rusty skills or experienced sailors and racers.
Where we began
Hunts SC started life in 1954 on the River Great Ouse near Houghton. The clubhouse was an old showman's caravan and races were run from a houseboat.
In 1976 we opened on our current lake, and the clubhouse was built in 1984. In 2022 we had a new boat shed for the powerboats and tractor built at the other end of the boat park. This will then enable us to extend the current clubhouse backwards, and allow for a bigger women's changing room and full disabled facilities. Watch this space!
Training
The club is a recognised RYA teaching establishment and runs regular training courses of all sorts for the members, including beginner and improver sailing courses and powerboat courses. The lake is approximately 50 acres with a gentle shoreline around a spit making a large natural launching area.
Sailing
At Hunts there's something going on nearly every day of the week. Racing, training, casual sailing there's always someone on the water! If you sail already you might be interested in fleet racing (Lasers and Solos) or handicap racing (anything from Teras to Comets to Mirrors to D-Zeros to RS200s to Fireballs!). If you want to learn to sail, we run regular beginner and improver courses for adults and kids. And if you simply want to mess around in boats, that's us!
