Hunts Junior Sailors Take On Their First National Championship

A team of young sailors from Hunts Sailing Club recently took part in the inaugural RYA Junior Club Championships at Northampton Sailing Club on 19th & 20th September 2026, a national event created to give club sailors the opportunity to experience racing against teams from across the UK.
The championship was designed for sailors who enjoy club racing but may not yet have competed on the national circuit, making it the perfect opportunity for our juniors to test themselves in a bigger sailing environment.
Hunts entered a team using a Topper and an RS Feva, with sailors taking it in turns to race throughout the weekend. The format featured lots of short sprint races, meaning everyone had plenty of time on the water and opportunities to learn from each race. The quick turnaround between races kept the action moving and helped our sailors develop their decision-making, boat handling and racing confidence.
Perhaps the biggest success of the weekend wasn't where anyone finished, but the experience gained. For many of our sailors this was their first national event, giving them the chance to race new competitors, make new friends and represent Hunts Sailing Club on a national stage.
A huge thank you goes to Hannah Wilcox, who helped organise and encourage the team to get involved. Without Hannah's support, many of our sailors would not have had the opportunity to experience such a fantastic event.
We're incredibly proud of Adam, Florence, Issac, Jan, Nathaniel & Penny who all represented Hunts brilliantly, embraced the challenge and returned with plenty of stories, new skills and memories that will help them continue their sailing journey.
Well sailed, everyone!
