February is Work Party month

The work parties are a great way for you to support the club, you get a chance to meet other members you might not normally see, plus you also get a free lunch!
Work Parties take place on Sunday 16th and Sunday 23rd February 2025 starting at 10am. There is no sailing on these two Sundays.
Following the format of previous years, the list of jobs has been pulled together by the Facilities sub-committee along with suggestions from members.
Please find below a summary of the list of jobs we hope to complete during the 2025 Work Party days. You can also download the full details of all the tasks (PDF 600kB) at the bottom of this page. The list will also be available on the day in the Bosuns Hut. We hope that by circulating to members prior to the work parties, members can volunteer for specific jobs via mark.dunne@huntssc.org.uk but also bring with them the right tools, clothing and PPE for that job; materials are provided.
Summary of jobs
- Chipping large pile of branches (instead of burning)
- Using orange trailer/ tractor - collect up the cut branches from the roadway and move them to the shredding pile.
- Trailers & chippings - Extend trailer storage area
- Land between the top gates: Clear self-seeded saplings, Remove Ivy, Cut ivy stem, Cut stumps low to the ground allowing for mower use.
- Land in front of sign: Cut lower branches to allow for ground plants to thrive. Move branches to the shredding pile
- Land in front of sign: Cut back tree stumps to allow mower to operate
- Wash club sign
- Fence by first gate: repair fence rail which was broken by car crashing into it!
- Clear vegetation from drainage ditch banks
- Make a chain ground anchor and padlock the middle gate back
- Clean out post box and then fix loop inside for spare gate padlock
- Lake bank general vegetation clearance
- NW bank: Pollard trees that are in the water along the whole bank, make stacked habitat piles along the bank.
- Habitat pile: Tidy up, cut back vegetation growing around it
- Between the two top gates - Cut the trees/bushes on left to create hedge
- Footpath side bank on left - general clearance
- Wooden fence line along roadway: Harsh cut back of brambles/ lower tree branches etc
- Cut back reds on the driveway area
- Cut back reeds between the launch and Bosuns hut slipway
- Green gate - paint
- Remove remaining bushes that hinder mower.
- Car park rubble: Move to Gabions area
- Car Park - Smaller rubble - fill in pot holes using vibrating plate to tamp down
- Install Gabions for bank stabilisation from new slipway towards the middle slipway.
- Clean and sort out throw out any junk behind bar area
- Galley big clean (after lunch)
- Using old workshop door and frame -install door underneath race box
- Race box
- Main pontoon remove old scaffolding
- Geese gates: Paint with preservative
- Club boats: Power wash/clean and carry out any repairs
- Power boats: jet wash then use the elec polisher then apply protective coating.
- Deep clean both changing rooms
- Committee boat floor panels
- New bosuns hut dinghy launch area: Finish installing squares and gravel.
- PB1 & PB2 epoxy screws on rubbing strip.
- Re-paint bosun hut floor
- Wash marker buoys
- Trailer/Trolley area weeding
- Electrical remedial work
- Dig Elec cable trench boat park
- Elec cable trench by old boatshed
- Dig trench for electrics between old workshop and ladies changing room
- Weed and power wash patio and paths
- Attach cladding onto the side of committee boat shelter
- Plate the walkway rather than the current bricks.
- Wash UPVC
- Paint new rudder
- Replace broken Honda lawnmower wheels
- Finish club boat move
- Move tree stumps into car park
- Make up new mooring ropes
