Hunts SC Summer Sailing Courses 2021: Terms and Conditions

Application and eligibility

Courses are typically booked via the website, please ensure you book onto the right course and that your sailor meets the minimum age requirement for the course (aged 8 years) unless by prior arrangement. If you are not a club member you will need to ensure your payment covers membership of the club. Submission of the form and payment doesn't guarantee a place. You will receive a confirmation of your place once the Training Principal or Course Instructor has checked your application and if there are sufficient spaces available. Hunts Sailing Club reserves the right to refuse a booking where a student has a medical condition that is considered to be detrimental to their safe participation in the course and/or its smooth running

Course fees are due in full with the completed booking form for each course. Fees include instruction by RYA qualified staff, boat hire, buoyancy aid and, where applicable, RYA logbook and course certificate upon successful completion of the course. Booking fees do not include cancellation insurance.

Hunts Sailing Club reserves the right to cancel any course or activity if the numbers are insufficient, due to bad weather or for other reasons beyond its control. Where this is necessary a full refund will be made or an alternative course or activity offered. No additional liability for compensation or expenses will be accepted by the Club. Reserved places that are cancelled in writing by a student less than eight weeks prior to the starting date will result in the full fee being forfeited. In the event that we have to cancel a course in advance or part-way through due to COVID-19 then you will receive a full or proportionate refund.

Safety is of paramount importance at Hunts. Whilst we do everything in our power to prevent injuries, water sports involve some risk and course participants, parents and guardians must accept that accidents may occur. To manage these risks, our RYA courses are run by qualified instructors who teach to RYA guidelines, are first aid trained and our safety systems are inspected annually by the RYA. We reserve the right to change or modify any activity if we think the risks require us to do so.

Hunts Sailing Club, its instructors, committee, organisers and volunteers do not accept any responsibility for any loss damage or injury suffered by any persons and/or their property arising out of or during the course of their activities whilst training, instructing or otherwise unless such loss or damage was caused by or resulted from negligence or deliberate act.

Sailing is an active sport and it is the responsibility of students to ensure that they are healthy and physically fit to take part. Please check with your doctor if you are in any doubt. Hunts Sailing Club will require every student on a course (both adults and children) to complete a medical form, including details of their next of kin and emergency contact number.

If for whatever reason, an instructor has to put a student ashore or administer medical aid, Hunts Sailing Club or other employees accept no liabilities. If a health condition arises that prevents a client from taking part in a course this shall be regarded as cancellation by the client and the cancellation procedure above will apply.
Buoyancy aids MUST be worn. Hunts Sailing Club can provide buoyancy aids but cannot offer wetsuits, suitable footwear or waterproof clothing. Students must be confident in the water and must advise of any medical conditions, illness or accessibility requirements at the time of booking, which we will endeavour to accommodate where reasonably practicable to do so. Details of kit required will be provided in the joining instructions.

Own Boat Instruction

The owner must:
(a)    ensure that the dinghy is equipped to minimum standards (checklists for types of dinghies available on request) and is maintained in a proper, safe and seamanlike condition for the intended sailing activities;
(b)    ensure that the dinghy is fully insured for third party liability up to £5m for the duration of the instruction; and
(c)    retain responsibility for the safety of the dinghy throughout.
If in the instructor’s opinion weather conditions, safety, or any other consideration renders it imprudent or inappropriate to continue, then the instructor’s decision is final; Hunts Sailing Club does not accept liability for the consequence of delay or cancellation in such circumstances.

Certificates for courses are only issued upon successful completion of all elements of the course syllabus. Every effort will be made to ensure that students successfully complete the course but students, parents and guardians must accept that certificates will not be awarded if a sufficient level of understanding and ability is not shown throughout the course. Weather conditions and behavioural issues can all impact upon our ability to deliver the syllabus of any course, as well as the competence and confidence of students.
